Buying house · Strategic sourcing
Asia Sourcing is a 23-year-old India buying house for international retailers, importers, wholesalers and e-commerce brands. We run a full buying-office engagement model — supplier discovery, factory verification, costing and negotiation, product development, sampling, production monitoring, in-line and pre-shipment quality control, container-loading supervision and export documentation — out of a single office in Moradabad with a technical team covering all 15 of our indexed manufacturing clusters.
What a buying house in India actually does
A buying house (also called a buying agency, sourcing office or sourcing agency) is the India-side arm of an international buyer's merchandising team. Where a factory sales agent is paid by the manufacturer and therefore inherits that factory's conflict of interest, a buying house is paid by the buyer — our commercial relationship with you is a transparent commission on FOB or a fixed monthly retainer, never a factory-side payment. This is the operational and ethical line that separates a buying house from a trading company, and it is why international retailers trust the supplier shortlists we prepare.
In practice our buying-house service covers eight functions in sequence: (1) brief intake and feasibility, (2) supplier discovery across our 1,000+ vetted factory database, (3) factory verification and audit, (4) costing and negotiation, (5) product development and sampling, (6) production monitoring, (7) quality control at pre-production / in-line / pre-shipment stages, and (8) export documentation and shipment coordination. Buyers can engage us for the complete sequence or for discrete stages — the common entry point is supplier verification + production QC + pre-shipment inspection.
Who this service is for
International retailers running own-label programmes, DTC and marketplace brands scaling into India sourcing for the first time, importer-distributors with multi-SKU catalogues, hospitality FF&E specifiers, interior-design firms sourcing bespoke home furnishings, and department stores running curated India sections. Programme scale typically starts at one 20-ft container (common entry threshold) and extends to multi-container annual programmes worth €500K to €5M.
Buyers come to us from the UK, US, Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Canada, Italy, Spain, Poland and Australia — our existing country × category pages document the specific regulatory and compliance differences for each market.
Product categories we handle
The buying-house engagement is anchored to our seven authority categories: lighting (table, floor, pendant, wall, chandelier), furniture (solid wood, upholstered, metal, outdoor, hospitality), home décor and giftware, brass and metalware, home furnishings and textiles, decorative accessories, and fashion accessories. We do not take on apparel garment programmes or engineered industrial goods — buyers choose Asia Sourcing specifically because our 23 years of category depth is in home and lifestyle, not generic manufacturing.
Why buyers choose a buying house over direct factory contact
The economics of a buying house are straightforward: our commission is almost always less than the margin leakage, defect cost and shipment disruption buyers incur when they manage Indian factories directly from Europe or North America. The three most common failure modes we remove are (a) supplier misrepresentation — a factory presenting itself as a manufacturer when it is in fact a trading company, (b) specification drift during production — the sample is approved, the production run is not, (c) documentation and compliance errors at port — missing BIS, LFGB, EN71-3, FSC or Reach certificates that delay container release.
A buying house also gives buyers continuity. When your merchandising team changes, when a factory owner changes, when a cluster price benchmark shifts — the institutional memory of the supplier relationship stays with us.
Engagement models
We work on three commercial structures. (1) Transaction commission — a transparent commission on FOB value, charged per shipment, buyer-side only, typical for first-time buyers and single-programme engagements. (2) Fixed retainer — a monthly or quarterly fee for buyers running multiple parallel programmes who want dedicated capacity. (3) Hybrid — a lower retainer plus a per-shipment commission, typical for buyers who want the predictability of a retained team with the alignment of volume-based incentives.
All models are buyer-side only. Factories do not pay us. This is non-negotiable.

India Buying House · Frequently asked questions
What is a buying house in India?
A buying house is the India-side merchandising arm of an international buyer. It handles supplier verification, product development, sampling, production monitoring, quality control and export documentation. Unlike a factory sales agent (paid by the manufacturer), a buying house is paid by the buyer — Asia Sourcing works on commission or retainer directly with the buyer, never from the factory.
How is a buying house different from a sourcing agent?
The two terms are often used interchangeably. In practice a sourcing agent typically focuses on supplier discovery and negotiation; a buying house delivers the complete sourcing operation including production monitoring, QC and export documentation. Asia Sourcing operates as a full buying house with sourcing-agent-only engagements available on request.
What is the minimum order size for an India buying house engagement?
A single 20-ft container is the common entry threshold. We work with buyers scaling up to multi-container annual programmes worth €500K to €5M. Smaller sampling-stage engagements are available on a fixed-fee basis.
How does Asia Sourcing verify Indian suppliers?
We conduct a 32-point factory audit covering legal status, GST registration, ownership structure, factory size, machinery condition, worker count, finished-goods capacity, prior export history, certifications (BSCI / Sedex / FSC / GOTS / BIS), production capability on the specific category, prior customers and reference checks. The audit report is shared with the buyer before any purchase order is placed.
Can Asia Sourcing manage end-to-end shipments including export documentation?
Yes. We coordinate commercial invoice preparation, packing list, CoO, Form A / GSP where applicable, phytosanitary certificates for wood items, FSC certificates, test reports (BIS, LFGB, EN71-3, Reach), container stuffing supervision, container photography and courier of original documents to the buyer's freight forwarder.
