What a sourcing company in India actually delivers
The phrase 'sourcing company' is loose. In India, it covers everything from one-person WhatsApp brokers to global firms with three-tier hierarchies and per-PO commission tables. Asia Sourcing sits in a specific slot: a founder-led, on-the-ground team that owns the entire chain from your first design brief through to the bill of lading — without subcontracting QC, without buying-and-reselling, and without splitting commissions with the factory.
That distinction matters because most cost leakage in India sourcing is hidden inside the model itself. A brokerage that earns 4-8% from the factory has no economic reason to pick the lowest-quote supplier. A trading house that resells with a 12% margin has no incentive to disclose the factory's actual FOB. A directory platform that charges per-lead has no reason to filter weak factories out. By contrast, a transparent-fee buying-side sourcing company is paid by the buyer, accountable to the buyer, and removed from the deal flow except as the buyer's representative.
Day to day, that translates into one accountable point of contact (named, English-speaking, Moradabad-based), a written shortlist of 2-3 manufacturers per SKU within 7-10 working days, sample procurement and approval gating before any bulk PO, AQL 2.5 inspection at every milestone, container-loading supervision with photographed seals, and a single consolidated invoice that shows the factory FOB and our fee as separate line items.
How Asia Sourcing differs from sourcing platforms and trading houses
Sourcing platforms and trading houses dominate Google's first page for 'India sourcing' searches, but they solve different problems. Below is the model breakdown buyers usually want before signing an engagement letter.
When a sourcing platform is the right choice
If you are a digital-native DTC brand testing an idea with 30 units, a sourcing platform is faster and cheaper than us. You will sacrifice quality consistency, but for a 30-unit pilot that is the right tradeoff. We typically engage starting at 500 units MOQ or a $25k FOB ticket — below that, the math does not justify a full-service sourcing company.
When a trading house is the right choice
If you want a single SKU with zero ongoing involvement and you trust the trading house's house-brand QC, this model works. The trade-off is you cannot scale margin: the house's mark-up never shrinks even when your volume grows. With a buyer-side sourcing company, the % fee shrinks with volume — at 6+ POs/year retainers replace project fees entirely.
Our 8-cluster manufacturing footprint
Asia Sourcing operates across India's eight major B2B manufacturing clusters. Each cluster specializes in a few categories — and crucially, each cluster has its own labour, supply chain, certification base and lead-time profile. Buying across clusters needs cluster-specific knowledge; this is where most cross-border buyers waste 12-18 months learning the hard way.
- Moradabad (UP) — brass, lighting, metalware. 400+ years of trade. Our HQ.
- Firozabad (UP) — hand-blown and decorative glass. 200+ years.
- Jaipur (Rajasthan) — blue pottery (GI-tag), polki/kundan jewellery, stone inlay.
- Jodhpur (Rajasthan) — solid-wood and industrial-iron furniture (50-unit MOQ).
- Saharanpur (UP) — hand-carved wood furniture, screens, panels.
- Panipat (Haryana) — recycled-yarn textiles, throws, rugs (GRS-certified).
- Noida + Delhi NCR — mixed-material décor, leather, export consolidation hub.
- Karur + Tirupur (Tamil Nadu) — home textile and apparel (Phase 2 expansion).
Engagement model — three commercial structures
We adapt the fee structure to your annual volume and category breadth. The aim is alignment: as your volume grows, our per-unit cost should fall. Engagement letters are 12-month renewables with a 60-day exit clause.
Onboarding — what the first 30 days look like
First-time buyers underestimate how much foundational work happens before the first PO. The first 30 days set the entire program's quality baseline.
Week 1 — Brief intake and shortlist
We capture your brief in writing — drawings, target retails, MOQs, certifications, lead-time constraints, packaging requirements. Within 7 working days we deliver a written shortlist of 2-3 factories per SKU with capability snapshots, audit history, sample lead times and indicative FOBs.
Week 2-3 — Sampling
Factories produce samples against the shortlisted brief. We attend the sample inspection on the factory floor, photograph the workmanship, and ship 1-3 samples to you within 18-21 days at factory cost + courier.
Week 4 — Approval gate and PO
Sample approval gates the bulk PO. Once approved, the factory issues a Proforma Invoice, you sign and pay the 30% advance (held in escrow on first POs), and production begins. The full QC chain — IPC, DUPRO, PSI, CLI — kicks in on day 1 of production.
Compliance and documentation dossier
Every shipment exits India with a complete compliance dossier prepared by our Delhi NCR documentation team. Buyers in regulated markets (EU CE/UKCA, US CPSIA/Prop 65, GCC GSO) typically need 80% of the items below packaged ready-to-file with customs.
- Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading (Original Negotiable + Surrender option).
- Certificate of Origin (DGFT-issued) and APEDA where applicable.
- Fumigation Certificate (ISPM-15) on all wooden pallets and crating.
- Factory Compliance Certificates — BSCI, Sedex, ISO 9001, FSC, GOTS, GRS as relevant.
- Lab Test Certificates — REACH, Prop 65, EN 71, CPSIA, lead/cadmium/nickel-release.
- PSI + CLI reports with photo dossier and signed Inspector ID page.
- Insurance certificate, freight forwarder details and tracking link.
Frequently asked
SourcingCompanyIndia—commonquestions.
What is a sourcing company in India and how does it differ from a buying agent?
A sourcing company is a full-service procurement partner — finding factories, negotiating, inspecting, supervising loading and managing documentation. A buying agent is one component of that (the factory-finding piece). Asia Sourcing operates as both: a sourcing company by default, with buying-agent-only engagements available for buyers who already have QC capability in-house.
How much does a sourcing company in India cost?
Project fees run 5-7% of FOB; monthly retainers $2,000-6,000 depending on category breadth and volume. We disclose the structure on the first call and show it as a separate line item on every invoice. We never accept commissions from factories — that is enforced contractually with our supplier network.
Which categories can you source from India?
Six primary verticals — lighting (brass, glass, ceramic), furniture (solid wood, iron, upholstery), home décor (mixed media, ceramic), textile (block print, weave, soft furnishing), brass & metalware (cast, spun, electroplated), fashion accessories (leather, jewellery, embroidered apparel). We scope adjacent categories on request — see /services for the full sourcing services index.
Do you offer sourcing for small buyers or just retail-volume programs?
Our typical engagement floor is 500 units MOQ or a $25k FOB ticket. Below that, the math does not justify a full-service sourcing company — we will redirect you to specific factory introductions or to platforms better suited to pilot volumes. We are honest about fit on the first call.
Can you handle quality control as part of the sourcing engagement?
Yes — AQL 2.5 inspection at every milestone is bundled into every full-service engagement. See our /services/quality-inspection-india page for protocol details, and /services/factory-audit-india for the upstream audit chain.
Where is Asia Sourcing based and do you have offices in other cities?
Headquarters in Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) since 2002 — D-8 Manarover Colony, Delhi Road. Field inspectors are stationed in Delhi NCR, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Panipat and Saharanpur. We do not maintain offices outside India; all client communication is centralised through the Moradabad HQ.
