Quality control · Inspection
Quality control is the single service most international buyers engage Asia Sourcing for first. Our QC team runs factory-side inspections at four stages — pre-production, in-line, final and container loading — against AQL 2.5 or 4.0 defect limits (or the buyer's custom plan) and against the compliance regime of the destination market.
The four-stage inspection plan
Stage 1 — Pre-production (PPI): verification of raw materials, incoming components, tooling condition and sample approval against the signed-off pre-production sample. Stage 2 — In-line / during-production (DPI): factory visit at 20–40% production completion to inspect assembly, finishing and early defect patterns. Stage 3 — Final / pre-shipment (PSI): 100% inspection of finished goods against AQL 2.5 (major) / 4.0 (minor) using the ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 single-sampling plan, including packaging, labelling, barcode scan and carton-marking verification. Stage 4 — Container loading supervision (CLS): on-site at the factory or at a consolidation warehouse to supervise FCL loading, record the seal number, photograph the loaded container and sign off on the loading plan.
The default engagement is PSI + CLS. Buyers with a new factory or a new product typically add PPI and DPI as insurance against specification drift.
Standards and certifications
Inspection reports are issued against the buyer's chosen standard. Common defect sampling plans: AQL 2.5 (major) / 4.0 (minor) for home-and-lifestyle goods, AQL 1.5 for safety-critical children's products. Compliance frameworks: BIS (India) and electrical safety for lighting, LFGB (EU) and FDA (US) for food-contact items, EN71-3 (EU toy-safety) for children's décor, FSC / PEFC for wood and paper items, GOTS / OEKO-TEX for textile, Reach (EU) for chemical compliance, CPSIA (US) for children's goods, Prop 65 (California) for applicable items.
What's in a Final Random Inspection (FRI) report
Every FRI report Asia Sourcing issues contains: factory details, PO reference, inspection date, sampling plan used, SKU-wise quantity inspection, major-minor-critical defect counts against the AQL cut-off, packaging and labelling photographs, carton-marking verification, one representative photo per SKU, a defect-cluster photo set, loading schedule, and a GO / HOLD / FAIL recommendation. The report is delivered to the buyer within 24 hours of inspection completion.
When QC pays for itself
Our standard engagement is a per-inspection fee of USD 180–280 depending on inspection type and factory location. A single typical 20-ft container contains 5,000–8,000 units at a landed cost of USD 60,000–120,000. A failed shipment — defective finish, mislabelled cartons, missing certifications, broken items — costs the buyer the landed value plus the re-work or re-ship cost. QC pays for itself on the first prevented re-shipment.
