Global sourcing means running an India supply chain from a headquarters that isn't in India. Asia Sourcing operates as the in-country arm for buyers in the US, EU, UK, UAE, KSA, Australia and Canada — handling the language, time-zone, regulatory-fit and logistics differences that trip up first-time cross-border buyers. This page describes the model, the compliance regimes we work across, and the freight and payment infrastructure we use to make India sourcing feel local no matter where you're headquartered.

What 'global' actually means in sourcing terms

The word 'global' is overused in sourcing marketing — but for a buyer, it has a very specific meaning: does your India sourcing partner know how to make products land in your specific market, compliant with your specific regulatory regime, on time, at declared value, with the specific documentation your customs broker expects? A partner who nails those four things in your specific market is a global sourcing service. A partner who ships FOB and washes their hands after the container leaves Nhava Sheva is not.

Asia Sourcing runs a dedicated per-market compliance and logistics layer for each of the seven buyer markets we serve. That layer includes the regulatory regime (which certifications apply, what labels are required, what test protocols customs will accept), the currency and payment infrastructure (wire, Wise, Payoneer, L/C, and hedging on request), the freight lane (which carriers, which transit times, which reliability), and the destination-side documentation package expected by that market's customs authority.

Per-market compliance stacks

United States — CPSIA · Prop 65 · FDA

CPSIA (child-safe products, lead, phthalates), Prop 65 (California-specific chemical warning labels — enforced with private-attorney-general suits), FDA (food-contact ceramic and metal, lead/cadmium leach testing). We test at PD stage, not lab stage. Customs broker deliverables: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, ISF filing 24 hours before vessel departure.

European Union — CE · UKCA · REACH · WEEE

CE marking with photometric (LM-79), electrical safety (EN 60598) and EMC certificates for lighting; toy safety (EN 71) for playware; furniture stability (EN 12520 / EN 1730). UKCA for UK-specific market. REACH SVHC screening across all categories. WEEE registration where applicable. Customs deliverable: DUA + ATR/EUR.1 for preferential origin.

Middle East — GSO · SASO · ESMA

Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) framework, Saudi Standards (SASO) with per-shipment SABER conformity certificate, UAE ESMA for regulated categories. Halal certification for cosmetic and edible categories via partner labs. Documentation in Arabic + English.

Australia and New Zealand — ACCC · MPI

ACCC product-safety compliance (mandatory standards for lighting, toys, cots). MPI biosecurity clearance for wooden furniture and packaging (ISPM-15 fumigation required). AQIS pre-shipment inspection for high-risk categories.

Canada — CCPSA · Health Canada · CANIMPORT

Canada Consumer Product Safety Act framework, Health Canada requirements for children's products (SOR/2016-193), lead limit compliance for décor (SOR/2011-17). Bilingual (English + French) labelling for retail sale in Quebec.

Payment and currency infrastructure

Cross-border payment is where many first-time India sourcing programs stall. Bank wires are slow (3-5 days), expensive ($25-50 per transfer plus 2-4% FX spread), and awkward for smaller programs. We support four payment rails and pick the right one for each buyer's size and cadence.

Wire transfer (SWIFT)StandardBest for POs above $25k. FX spread ~2-3%. 3-5 day settlement.
Letter of Credit (L/C)Regulated marketsCommon for KSA, Iraq, Ethiopia buyers. We work with SBI, HDFC, ICICI on the India side.
Wise (formerly TransferWise)SMB-friendlyBest under $10k per payment. ~0.5% FX spread, same-day settlement. USD/EUR/GBP/AUD supported.
PayoneerMarketplace buyersBest for buyers running Amazon FBA / Shopify programs. Cheaper than SWIFT.

Currency hedging is available on request via our banking partners for programs above $500k/year — typically 3-month forward contracts at prevailing rates.

Time-zone and language operations

India sits in a favourable time zone for cross-continental coverage — 9.5-10.5 hours ahead of US Eastern, 4.5 hours ahead of UK, 1.5 hours behind Singapore. We run a two-window operating model that overlaps with our buyer markets:

  • Morning window (IST 09:00-13:00) — overlaps UK / EU 03:30-07:30 UTC. Best for UK/EU buyer sync calls and morning reporting.
  • Evening window (IST 18:00-22:00) — overlaps US Eastern 07:30-11:30. Best for US buyer sync calls and end-of-day briefing.
  • Asynchronous — WIP reports emailed daily 20:00 IST. WhatsApp for urgent escalations 24 hours (but 4 hour response SLA outside windows).
  • Language — All communication in English. Native fluency across the team. Written reports, tech-packs, invoices in English by default.

Frequently asked

GlobalSourcingServicescommonquestions.

Which countries do you serve as a global sourcing partner?

Active engagements in US, UK, EU (Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain), UAE, KSA, Australia, Canada. Occasional projects in New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, Israel. Our per-market compliance and logistics layers are strongest for the seven listed markets.

How do payment terms work for buyers based outside India?

Standard is 30% advance on PO issue, 70% against Bill of Lading copy. For repeat buyers with 12-month history, we offer 30/70 → 20/80 → 0/100 as trust builds. First-time buyers on programs over $50k typically go via escrow (Trade Assurance-style) for the first PO.

Do you handle compliance certification (CE, CPSIA, REACH) as part of the engagement?

Yes — compliance is engineered in at PD stage and lab-tested at SGS, Intertek, TÜV SÜD or Bureau Veritas at our coordination. Certificates issued in the buyer's name. Cost is passed at lab rate + a flat $150 coordination fee per SKU.

Can you consolidate shipments from India across multiple buyer countries?

Yes. Common patterns: single-container multi-SKU consolidation from our Delhi NCR hub, split-container multi-destination (via LCL for smaller markets), and hub-and-spoke consolidation to a US or EU warehouse for onward retail distribution.

What are the standard INCOTERMS for global sourcing engagements?

FOB (most common — ~70% of our shipments), CIF (25% — buyers who want us to handle ocean freight), DDP (selective — for high-value / low-volume programs to US, EU, UAE). EXW is available but rarely recommended for first-time buyers.

How do you handle time-zone differences with buyers in the US or Australia?

Two daily windows: morning IST (overlaps UK/EU) and evening IST (overlaps US Eastern). Daily WIP reports emailed 20:00 IST regardless. WhatsApp for urgent escalations. Sync calls scheduled around your working hours; we adapt, not the buyer.
