SourcingcookwarefromIndia

India is one of the world's largest cookware producers, quietly exporting to over 90 countries every year. Our sourcing programmes cover stainless-steel triply, hard-anodised aluminium, cast iron, forged brass, hammered copper and enamel-coated cast iron — from BIS-certified factories in Moradabad, Delhi NCR and the Wazirpur belt. Every SKU is lab-tested for food-contact safety (LFGB / FDA / EU 1935/2004) and salt-spray tested to 96 hours before packing.

Materials and construction

Cookware from India is manufactured across five material families, each with its own supply-chain characteristics. Stainless-steel triply and 5-ply cookware — the workhorse of hotel and export programmes — is drawn from 304 and 430-grade Indian mill coil and deep-drawn or spun on hydraulic presses. Hard-anodised aluminium runs from 3003-grade sheet through Type-II anodising baths that build a 60-micron ceramic-hard surface. Cast iron (both raw and pre-seasoned) is sand-cast in Rajkot and the Belgaum belt.

Forged and spun brass or copper cookware — the more decorative end of the range — is produced in Moradabad by artisan foundries with a 400-year continuous tradition. These pieces are food-grade tin-lined on the interior and hand-hammered on the exterior. Enamel-coated cast iron (Le-Creuset-style Dutch ovens and skillets) is a newer capability, concentrated in the Ahmedabad export cluster with fully automated enamelling lines.

Compliance, food safety and certifications

Cookware is a compliance-heavy category and the wrong certificate blocks a container at port. Our supplier shortlist is filtered upfront on the credentials the destination market requires. For US buyers this means FDA 21 CFR Part 177 for polymer components (handles) and Prop-65 heavy-metal panels. For EU buyers, EU 1935/2004 declarations, EU 10/2011 for polymers, LFGB migration testing for German channels. UK buyers additionally require UKCA registration on branded product.

Every export SKU we ship carries an independent food-contact lab report (SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas), a BIS mark where the Bureau of Indian Standards mandates one, and a salt-spray corrosion certificate. Our QC lab in Delhi runs random sample verification on every 20-ft container before it clears despatch.

MOQs, lead times and unit economics

Cookware programme economics scale steeply. Our base MOQ across the category is 500 units per SKU, but larger commitments (2,000+ units) unlock better material pricing, dedicated colour runs on enamelled product and priority slots during Q3-Q4 peak season (August-November). Lead times run 45 days on standard SKUs and 60 days on new-tooling development — including sampling, PP sample approval, bulk production, third-party inspection and container loading.

Container loading typically achieves 3,800-5,200 pieces per 20-ft container for stackable cookware (nested sets), and 1,800-2,400 pieces for bulkier Dutch ovens and casseroles. FOB Nhava Sheva or Mundra are our default ports; ex-works pricing is also available for buyers running their own consolidation.

Private label, branding and packaging

Our factories are fluent in private-label programmes. Etched, laser-engraved and pad-printed brand marks are all available; hangtags, gift boxes, colour-matched Pantone packaging and multi-language user manuals are routine. For DTC brands we run FBA-prep loading — polybag + insert card + carton in a single carton with FNSKU labels applied at the factory. For retail programmes we work to your dieline and colour-manage against Pantone Solid Coated.

Cookware programmes are one of the most competitive private-label opportunities in India. Wine-and-dine gift SKUs, hotel amenity ranges, cruise-ship galley kits, DTC premium ranges and mass-market retail programmes all coexist in our supplier base — the differentiator is in tooling, finish, and QC discipline, not in headline price.

Frequently asked

Cookware — buyer questions

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for cookware from India?

Our base MOQ is 500 pieces per SKU for stock designs. New-tooling and fully bespoke ranges start at 2,000 pieces per SKU. Mixed containers combining 3-5 SKUs at 500 units each are our most common export programme.

How long does a cookware production run take?

45 days on standard SKUs from PO confirmation to FOB, including sampling, PP sample sign-off, bulk production and third-party inspection. 60 days on new-tooling development. Peak season (August-November) may add 10-15 days.

What food-safety certifications do Indian cookware factories offer?

BIS is mandatory for the Indian domestic market. For export we routinely provide FDA (US), LFGB (EU / Germany), EU 1935/2004 declarations, Prop-65 (California) and REACH panels. SGS / Intertek / Bureau Veritas run the independent lab work on every container.

Can I source triply and 5-ply stainless steel cookware from India?

Yes. India has strong triply and 5-ply manufacturing capability, primarily in the Wazirpur and Rajkot belts. 304 food-grade interior, 430 magnetic base for induction compatibility. We run through-the-body triply construction as standard, with 3-year commercial warranty on the impact bond.

Do you offer private-label branding and custom packaging on cookware?

Yes. Etched, laser-engraved and pad-printed brand marks are all available. We also handle hangtags, colour-managed gift boxes, multi-language manuals, FBA-prep for Amazon sellers, and retail-ready dielined packaging matched against Pantone Solid Coated.

Which Indian cluster is best for sourcing brass and copper cookware?

Moradabad, without exception. It has a 400-year continuous brass and copper tradition, deep artisan capacity and food-grade tin-lining fluency. Our headquarters is in Moradabad — factory audits and QC visits happen weekly.
